Coaticook, January 22, 2025<\/strong> – An agreement reached by the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d’aide au d\u00e9veloppement de la collectivit\u00e9 (SADC) de la r\u00e9gion de Coaticook, the MRC de Coaticook, the Biblioth\u00e8que Fran\u00e7oise-Maurice de Coaticook, and a French-as-a-second-language facilitator is poised to help maintain Francization workforce learning in the Coaticook region, despite recent adjustments announced by the provincial government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis announcement came as a shock to the 106 students who were on the Francization track at the time,\u201d according to Patricia Gardner, Settlement and Immigration Officer with the MRC de Coaticook. \u201cLocal players responded without hesitation, and we identified solutions to relaunch learning for these immigrants, who are dedicated to becoming proficient in French and integrating into society.\u201d<\/p>\n

The chief goal of the workshops is to support the Francization of workers in the Coaticook region, pending the reinstatement of Francization courses by the Centre de services scolaires des Hauts-Cantons (CSSHC). This is a stopgap solution that may be continued as a complement to the usual classes, once they return, to support continued language learning.<\/p>\n

The SADC will be contributing up to $15,000 to the project. This funding is made possible by a partnership between the SADC and the Caisse Desjardins des Verts-Sommets de l’Estrie.
\nThe MRC, for its part, will be playing a key role by coordinating the various players involved in the project and the CSSHC.<\/p>\n

Enrolled students will be able to continue their learning in these Francization workshops, which will be held on the premises of Coaticook\u2019s Biblioth\u00e8que Fran\u00e7oise-Maurice. The workshops will be prepared and led by a qualified Francization facilitator. They will be offered until March 31, 2025, thanks to this project supported by several local partners.<\/p>\n
